The Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) successfully staged its annual Gala Night at Studio 6 last Saturday (November 25) to celebrate the company’s achievements throughout the year and to thank the employees for their various contributions.

More than 200 guests including staff from around the country with their spouses, board of directors and invited guests attended the event which also to honour those that will be retiring at the end of the year.

Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade and FPCL Board Chairman Mr Shaheen Ali, who was the chief guest, in his address, thanked the employees for their contributions to the company throughout the year.

“We have come a long way addressing many challenges and it is now committed to excellence, leadership and innovation. These are attributes that have served us well throughout the year and they will continue to serve us in the future,” Mr Ali said.

“The Board of Directors are committed to the company’s vision of becoming the maritime gateway in the region and I, as the Chairman, am extremely proud to share the success of the company in recent years. You, the staff, should also be proud to work for a company that has obtained many accolades including the FNU Business Excellence Award.”

Mr Ali also recognised family members for their continuous support.

“We know it is not easy to balance the demands of home with work, and we appreciate your understanding.  Having your generous support, keen interest and encouragement have surely played a big part in the company’s success throughout the year.”

Also in attendance were Permanent Secretary for Public Enterprise Mr David Kolitagane and his wife and FPCL Director Mr Vijay Maharaj with his wife.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Roshan Abeyesundere said the event marked an end to a successful year for the company and individually recognised the effort put in by workers in all departments.

“Through all of your effort and always putting your best foot forward, we were able to achieve so much.  At the same time our clients were assured of our commitment to the highest quality of work. Without your shared pride and accountability, we simply could not have been so satisfactorily, successful this year,” Mr Abeyesundere said.

Mr Inoke Vulawalu, who will be retiring at the end of the year, was also honoured at the event. He retired from the Harbour Masters Office after 19 years of service.
