The Fiji Revenue Customs Authority and Fiji Ports Corporation Limited today signed an agreement on the upgrading of cameras in Suva and Lautoka Ports.

The agreement will see the installation of 20 cameras in both ports by Professional Electronics Limited.

“The security of our ports is important and critical to both FPCL and FRCA,” FRCA Chief Executive Mr Jitoko Tikolevu said.

“This is an important investment for FRCA as we try and improve technologies to facilitate our work in border control.”

FPCL Chief Executive Mr Vajira Piyasena said “The improvement to the security monitoring arrangement in Ports of Suva and Lautoka will enhance the compliance to International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).”

The current CCTV security system was installed in 2006, both FPCL and FRCA jointly funding the project.

The cost of the project will be shared by both organisations. The installation of the cameras is expected to be completed within two months.

Officers of both organisations will also be trained on the use of the cameras
