Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) staged its first Pinktober fundraising drive this morning – a joint effort with its subsidiary company Fiji Ships Heavy Industries Limited (FSHIL), in aid of the Fiji Cancer Society.

The “Morning Tea” charity drive is being organised with the aim of raising money for cancer victims and to raise awareness on cancer, which is one of the major contributing factors to our annual mortality rate in Fiji.

The total funds of close to $7,000 collected from their staff contribution and donations from invited stakeholders were entirely donated to the Fiji Cancer Society to assist them in funding medical needs for the victims and assist them in their cancer battle.

Chief Guest for the event was Prostate Cancer champion, Jope Tuivanuavou who shared the importance of getting medical checked for the disease.

In an informative presentation, Mr Tuivanuavou encouraged men to be active and eat healthy as preventative measures.

FPCL chief executive officer, Vajira Piyasena said they were all proud to host this event as part of their social corporate responsibilities, however, they were not able to achieve much without the support of their stakeholders who turned up for the event.

“With the ever increasing rate of cancer in Fiji, we believe that it’s a fight that we must make collectively,” Mr Piyasena said.

“To the person affected, survivors, health ministry and the Fiji Cancer Society, know that you are not alone in this fight and we, at Fiji Ports Corporation Limited, are also joining the battle against this deadly disease.”

Mr Piyasena said Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited has been hosting this event in the past years and we have joined to make the event even bigger.
