Twenty shore based personnel from FPCL and its associate company, Fiji Ports Terminal Limited attended a four day course on International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) from August 14 to August 17.

This course is primarily intended for personnel responsible for cargo handling of packaged Dangerous, Hazardous and Harmful cargoes thereafter referred to as “Dangerous Goods” onboard ships

 

The course, organized by Fiji Maritime Academy, included but not limited to classification, packaging, consignment procedures, loading and segregation.

 

According to course facilitator, Captain Hanre Sagaitu, the course enabled participants to contribute to the preparation and execution of the safe carriage of dangerous goods and marine pollutants by sea and will understand the legal implications of, and correctly apply or verify compliance with International, IMO or local regulations.

 

On the fourth day, participants went through a fire fighting course at the Togalevu Naval Base.
